Sweet Scoops Ice Cream in Sonoma, CA

Located in the heart of Sonoma Plaza, Sweet Scoops Homemade Ice Cream is the kind of ice cream shop that you would create if someone said “hey, can you create the perfect ice cream shop?” First of all, it’s across the street from a park which as a dad, you know how important working off that post ice cream energy can be. Second, it’s between a number of local food spots, great shops, fun wine tasting locations with hundreds if not thousands of tourists and locals who walk past the ice cream shop daily. Third, did I mention it’s across the street from a park? There’s something about sitting outside of an ice cream shop, watching families enjoy a beautiful day at the park. Most importantly, Sweet Scoops is family-owned, family operated, and every ounce of that store is dedicated to their Sonoma community.

If you’ve been to Sonoma, you know the region is known for it’s award winning wines, its fresh produce, and its farming communities. Sweet Scoops takes full advantage of its proximity to some of the freshest, most organic food in the country. That means when they make their ice cream daily, which they do, you are gaunteed to be eating a delicious scoop of ice cream that is as close to the source as you will ever find in Northern California.

Now what I love about Sweet Scoops (and their sister shop, Darling, An Ice Cream Shop), is that you’re going to see classic flavors that you know you’ll love. Last time I visited Sweet Scoops I tried a Salted Caramel Ice Cream that was out of this world! The girls got a Gluten Free Oreo Confetti Ice Cream and their Cupcake Ice Cream, both of which scooped perfectly and tasted exactly how you would hope.

When you go, whatever you get, get it on a waffle cone. Made daily, the smell of freshly baked waffle cones hits you as you walk by the store. Literally, I’ve sat outside eating my ice cream and watched person after person stop in their tracks to make their way into the shop after smelling their waffle cones.

Anyway, with their access to local farms, they’re constantly changing up their flavors. I like to mix up my choices when I stop by (Chocolate Chip, Mint Chip, and Caramel Tware a few of my go-to flavors) but given how they source their ingredients locally, I might recommend any of their flavors with fruit like Watmaugh Farm Strawberry Ice Cream, with Strawberries sourced from right down the road at Watmaugh Strawberries.
