Mint Chip Ice Cream

Hey, friends! Rae and I are thrilled to be back, and this time, we've brought along a recipe that's not only a crowd-pleaser but also holds a special place in our hearts - Mint Chip Ice Cream. In our latest video, I dive into a little tale about the early days of my relationship with Allie and our mint chip ice cream adventures. While Rae might not find the story as amusing (lol), it's these little moments that make our journey together so memorable.

Mint Chip Ice Cream is a classic favorite for many, including Allie. There's something about the refreshing taste of mint paired with the rich, chocolatey bits that makes it irresistible. Speaking of chocolatey bits, there's a bit of a debate on how to add the chocolate into the mix. Some prefer chocolate chips, while others opt for breaking chocolate into pieces. For Allie, and consequently in our recipe, chocolate shavings are the way to go. They blend perfectly with the creamy mint ice cream for an exquisite texture and flavor.

This recipe is incredibly easy to make at home, so when you have a moment, grab these ingredients and give it a try:

Ingredients for Mint Chip Ice Cream:

  • 1 cup whole milk

  • 2 cups heavy cream

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract

  • 1 bar of chocolate (to be shaved on a grater for chocolate pieces)

Let's Make Ice Cream!

  1. Mix the Base: In a large bowl, whisk together the whole milk, heavy cream, and granulated sugar until the sugar is completely dissolved.

  2. Flavor It Up: Add the peppermint extract to the mixture and stir well to ensure it's evenly distributed.

  3. Chocolate Shavings: Take your bar of chocolate and, using a grater, shave it into thin pieces. This will allow the chocolate to more seamlessly blend into the ice cream, offering a delightful texture with every bite.

  4. Churn: Pour your minty mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.

  5. Add Chocolate: Once the ice cream is almost done churning, add in your chocolate shavings and let it mix for a few more minutes.

  6. Freeze: Transfer the ice cream to a freezer-safe container and freeze until solid, or at least 4 hours.

And there you have it! Homemade Mint Chip Ice Cream that's sure to delight. Whether you're reminiscing about past memories or making new ones, this ice cream is the perfect treat to share with loved ones. So, grab a spoon, serve up a bowl, and enjoy the creamy, minty goodness with the ones who make every story worth telling. Happy ice cream making!
